Battery Replacement Guide

Preface

Use the following picture guide to easily change the battery on your iPhone 5, 5s, 5c and SE. You should make a backup of your iPhone before changing the display and then turn it off.

Step 1: Remove Pentalobe screws

Turn off your iPhone before you start the repair!

Remove these two screws from the bottom of the device

Step 2: Open display

Detach the display from the frame using the suction cup. Place it near the home button and pull carefully. Once there is a small gap, insert the metal plectrum and twist to further open the device.

Step 3: Pay attention to Home-Button cable

You only need this step with the iPhone 5s and SE, because otherwise the homHome-Button will become unusable.

Open the iPhone 5s and SE very slowly so as not to damage the home button cable!

Step 4: Detach connector

You only need this step with the iPhone 5s and SE, because otherwise the homHome-Button will become unusable.

Remove the metal clamp and the connector underneath with the plastic spatula before opening the display any further.

Step 5: Remove metal cover

Remove the two philips head screws securing the metal cover on the battery connector.

Step 6: Detach battery connector

Remove the battery connector from the logic board using the plastic spatula.

Step 7: Replace battery

Remove the battery from the device. iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s: Carefully pull the black ends of the adhesive holding the battery in place. You will find them stuck to the lower end of the battery. Pull them out from under the battery. In case the rip or you are unable to get them out completely, simply use the green plastic spatula from the tool kit to gently pry out the battery.

Be careful not to puncture or otherwise damage the battery to prevent hazardous substances from leaking out!

Place two strips of double-sided adhesive tape from the tool kit in the frame to hold the new battery in place and install it into the device. Attach the connector to the logic board.

Step 8: Attach metal cover

Place the metal cover on the connctor and secure it with two screws.

Step 9: Attach home button connector

You only need this step with the iPhone 5s and SE, because otherwise the homHome-Button will become unusable.

Reattach the home button connector and the metal clamp securing it. The clamp is installed this way around, with the clip towards the bottom of the device.

Step 10: Fix display

Press the display back into the frame. Start by the speaker on the upper part of the device, then work your way down towards the home button. Make sure the screen is flush on all sides and that there are no gaps.

Step 11: Fasten Pentalobe screws

Secure it with two screws on the bottom of the device.

That’s it! Your iPhone now has a fresh battery!
